The Farm in the Farms

So blogging is new to me...but we are doing such exciting things around the house and farm that I wanted to share it all with you!!  Today was a rain out so I wasn't able to get out in the garden....so instead I baked a wonderful loaf of bread.  The smell in the house around 3:00pm was amazing....just as my daughter was coming in the door from school.  The poor carpenter working upstairs on the bathroom remodel was tortured with the smell however.  He is starting to get used to it though - I bake bread about 3 times a week now.

I love being able to control the ingredients of the foods we eat.  Our Micro Farm allows us to do just that!  We have a wonderful little vegetable garden along with a small berry patch.  We are growing Blackberries, Blueberries and rasberries....and veggies in the garden. We have cucumbers, green beans, lettuce, tomatoes, snap peas, jalapeno peppers, beets and potatoes. We love to eat "Farm to Table"!  I also have an herb pot on the deck....I snip herbs to add to dinner every night.  It adds wonderful flavor!

The best part of the Farm in the Farms is our chickens!  We have 5 Isa Brown Chickens.  They are about a year old and have been laying eggs for us since last August.  We get anywhere from 3 to 5 eggs a day....they are so delicious!!  The "girls" love to run around the yard eating grass and scratching for bugs.  There is nothing better than to sit out at the "coop cafe" having a glass of wine and watching the chickens.  There really is something to the "pecking order" that is quite entertaining.

More to come on the Farm.....
